See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.
A popular restaurant pub with a split level bar. The lion's head figure on the outside wall is said to be the figurehead taken from a Dutch ship captured at the Battle of Sole Bay in 1672, though it has also been suggested it came from a vessel wrecked off Benacre in about 1740. Parts of the building date from the late 16th century, with an early 19th century wing to the right. Note that cash is not accepted here.
